Nancy Mendez
Pottery
From early childhood, Nancy has been a creative soul. Growing up in Florida, she was fascinated with gardening and landscaping and the front and backyards of her family home became her first canvases! Nancy would arrange, move, and rearrange plants to create a visual and welcoming environment, something that she has continued to this day at her sprawling home and wedding venue in Toccoa, Georgia.
Inside, Nancy was fascinated with macrame, and this became her indoor pastime, along with what she calls “interior decorating.” Essentially, Nancy is a self-proclaimed professional “stager.” She has always had an eye for creating pleasing environments, whether it be at home, her dad’s law office, or the many indoor and outdoor spaces at Cherrywood Ranch, which she owns and manages with her husband, Luis.
After a move from Florida to Georgia two decades ago, Nancy decided to try painting and studied with Pat Wise and Ron Taylor. She subsequently became a portrait artist. Then, the clay bug bit and she began making pottery; several of her pieces are on display here at Hemlock Studio Gallery.
A 2nd degree black belt martial arts instructor, Nancy also loves SCUBA diving. When not creating in her studio, Nancy enjoys working with brides, planning and hosting dozens of beautiful and memorable weddings each year at Cherrywood Ranch. Oh, and she also can continue her love of gardening and landscaping, creating beauty among the many acres of their hilltop home and wedding venue.
