Patti Parsons
Encaustic Mixed Media Artist
From the artist:
"IInspired by my husband Jay’s beekeeping, I have been constantly learning about and am increasingly in awe of the amazing honeybee. Through my exploration of hive products for my bath and body product line I encountered encaustic painting. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique using beeswax mixed with damar resin. Heat is applied to melt the medium and to bond the layers of wax and other pigments and materials. The process produces images with a variety of intriguing surfaces and density. Heated wax can take on a life of its own and produce an image that is quite different from what my original intention was. I am learning to embrace the magic of the unexpected, to detach from my desire for control. This also has been valuable as a life lesson.
I have long been a “serial” crafter, moving from one endeavor to another. With encaustic art I knew I had found a most perfect expression of my creativity and love of the natural world, which is the inspiration and theme for my art.
My art has won several awards at beekeeping conferences throughout Georgia."
