Photo Encaustics
From the artist:
"I have been taking photographs since I was 10 and learned the 35mm darkroom process in High School. I have loved photography ever since. I am a retired Gwinnett County Pubic School Art Teacher of 36 years. Now retired, I have time to do my own art and photography. I do mostly photo encaustics but also do some painting in acrylic and watercolor.
My encaustic photos are made using my photography with beeswax and damar resin (a natural tree sap that acts as a hardening agent). I paint the wax on in layers, fusing each layer with heat. Encaustic painting has a long history, dating back to the 5th Century B.C. I use it as an addition to my printed photos. The word encaustic means to burn in, which refers to the process of fusing the wax. Beeswax is impervious to moisture, it will not deteriorate, it will not yellow or darken. Encaustic photos do not have to be varnished or protected by glass.
I hope you enjoy my work!"
